Ju-Klɪb

Ju-Klɪb (pronounced YOO-klib) is a Chess-like game in which each player controls a set of pieces modeled after the Tɛkɾə solar system. The full name of the game (pronounced YOO-duh-TEK-yin KLON-dib) means “planet-family play,” or “system play.” Because the game’s official name is a bit of a mouthful, most prefer to use the shorter name: “Ju-Klɪb.”

I created this game in late 2020 while I was writing the script for Almost Home, because I wanted the main character (Rover) to have some kind of diversion or pastime. So, I came up with something I thought she and people from her original culture would likely play. Please note that while I’ve given a lot of thought to the game’s rules, structure, and balance, I have not yet had it properly playtested at the time of writing (December 2020). I don’t have any specific plans for this game yet, but maybe other opportunities will come down the line to incorporate it elsewhere. For now though, the current prototypical state of “Ju-Klɪb” represents a fun bit of worldbuilding for an equally fun audio project, and I hope you enjoy it as well!
